Miguel Farías

Miguel Farías born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, in 1983.

He begins his musical studies with private tuition after which he entered composition licenciature in the Faculty of Arts, "Universidad de Chile" in 2001. In 2003 he started his studies with the composer Rolando Cori then from 2004 to 2006 he studies with the composer Aliocha Solovera, and from 2007 onwards under the guidance of Jorge Pepi-Alós.

He has premiered works in Chile, Spain, France and Korea.
During 2006, his orchestral work "Nocturno del Fracaso" was selected one of the winning works in the "9ª Audición de nuevas Obras Chilenas" in 2006 and is interpreted by the Chilean Symphony Orchestra ("Orquesta sinfónica de Chile"). Furthermore, in july 2006, in the convention for composers organised by Injuve, he assists to masterclasses and individual classes in Spain with the composers Martin Matalon and Kaija Saariaho.

In july, 2007, he attended to "Centre Acanthes 2007" workshops, where he took lessons with the composers: Michael Jarrell, Yan Maresz and Marco Stroppa; then, his work "El color del tiempo" was premiered by the Orchestre National de Lorraine, conducted by Sylvio Gualda, in the Arsenal theatre of Metz.

During 2007, he won the first prize in INJUVE 2007 competition, with his work "Al mirar el cielo", the jury was: Philippe Hurel, Hilda Paredes, Jesús Rueda and Poul Ruders.

In addition, he was selected 1 of the 5 finalists in the "Isang Yun Music Prize 2007", and his work "El color del tiempo" was played by the "Korean Symphony Orchestra" in the Hoam Arts Hall os Seoul, Korea.

In november, 2007, he won the “Luis Advis 2007” composition prize in Chile with his work “Un suspiro”.

Furthermore he recently won the BMW Musica viva Patronize Award, in Germany, with his work “Cantos de Tierra”, for soprano and orchestra, and will be premiered by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. And the "Frederic Mompou International Award for the Young Composer Competition of Joventuts Musicals de Barcelona, 2007” for his work "Impulso", for piano, and will be premiered during 2008 in Barcelona.
