Antonio Ballestín

Pianista, compositor i arranjador, Antonio Ballestín desenvolupa aviat la seva vocació musical des de diversos fronts. Nascut a Zaragoza el 1977, estudia al conservatori mentre treballa amb músics de l’alçada d’Alejandro Monserrat, Miguel Ángel Remiro o César Peris. El 1998 es trasllada a Barcelona, on es llicencia en Musicologia i Piano Clàssic amb Miquel Farré. Al Taller de Músics descobreix el jazz amb els mestres Guillermo Klein, Albert Sanz, Jorge Rossy i més endavant amb Joan Albert Amargós. També a Zaragoza es forma amb Coco Fernández i Luis Gimenez, abans de traslladar-se l’any 2006 al “Codarts University for the Arts” de Róterdam per estudiar Composició i Arranjaments amb Paul van Brugge, i Piano Jazz amb Kriss Goessens, obtenint el titulo de Bachelor el 2010. Aquest mateix any rep una beca del govern holandès per realitzar un màster de composició orientat a la música contemporània i al folklore.

Pianista, compositor y arreglista, Antonio Ballestín desarrolla pronto su vocacion musical desde varios frentes.  Nacido en Zaragoza en 1977, estudia en el conservatorio mientras trabaja con músicos de la talla de Alejandro Monserrat, Miguel Ángel Remiro o César Peris. En 1998 se desplaza a Barcelona,  donde se licencia en Musicología y Piano Clásico con Miquel Farré. Es en el Taller de Músics de esta ciudad donde descubre el jazz con los maestros Guillermo Klein, Albert Sanz, Jorge Rossy y, más adelante, Joan Albert Amargós. También en Zaragoza se forma con Coco Fernández y Luis Gimenez, antes de trasladarse en 2006 al “Codarts University for the Arts” (Róterdam) para estudiar Composición y Arreglos con Paul van Brugge, y Piano Jazz con Kriss Goessens, obteniendo el título de Bachelor en 2010. En este mismo año recibe una beca del Gobierno holandés para realizar un máster en Composición orientado a la música contemporánea y al folclore

Antonio Ballestín

Pianist, composer and arranger. Born in Zaragoza in 1977, Antonio Ballestín soon developed his musical vocation in various areas, with an intense activity in classical music and various popular music genres. His first musical studies took place in his hometown professional conservatory with Javier Laboreo, where he soon came in contact with local musicians such as Alejandro Montserrat, Juan Caballero, Miguel Angel Remiro and César Peris.
In 1998 he moved to Barcelona, where he finished his musical degree in classical piano through the tutelage of Miquel Farré, while at the same time, he completed his theoretical studies with a degree in History and Science of Music. It is precisely in this “Taller de Músics” where he discovered Jazz under the guidance of teachers such as Guillermo Klein, Albert Sanz, Jorge Rossy and later Joan Albert Amargós. Back in Zaragoza, he broadened his modern music knowledge by studying with Coco Fernandez and Luis Giménez.
In 2006 he entered Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam to do advanced studies in Composition and Arrangement with Paul van Brugge, and Jazz Piano with Kris Goessens. In 2010, he obtained his degree, followed by the prestigious Nuffic Scholarship from the Dutch government to carry out a Master in Composition with emphasis on contemporary music and folklore.
His music has been heard on numerous stages and in festivals, among which it is worth noting the Youth Opera Festival (Utrecht 2007), Rotterdam Jazz International (2008), Red Sound Festival (Rotterdam 2009), Sofia Musik Week (Bulgaria 2009), Tromp Percussion (2010), Música en el Foro Romano de Zaragoza (2010), Zaragoza Jazz International (2010), Cycle of Great Soloists Pilar Bayona of the Auditorio de Zaragoza (2011), Cicle Youth & Classic of the Ateneu Barcelonès (2011), Cicle PLG Young Artists (London 2011/2012) or the Tres Cantos International Festival for Contemporary Music (2012).
Among the groups that have performed his music, special mention should be given to the Classical Jazz Ensemble, Rotterdam Jazz Shymphonic Orchestra, Codarts Jazz Shymphonic Orchestra, Magogo Kammerorkest, West Coast Big Band, Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra & Big Band, Wonder String Quartet, Rotterdam Ensemble, Terpsichore Guitar Quartet, violinist Alma Olite and cellist Pau Codina.
He has also had experience in various film and theatre projects, such as the film “Robot Shymphony” by the filmmaker Arno Volkers (Antwerp), the play “Anne Frank and the Stars” by the company Saltatium Theatre (Madrid) or the production “Megumi” by MIRFILM (Amsterdam).
Among his activities as pianist, highlights include the creation in 2003 of the group “Bitácora”, dedicated to the fusion of genres such as jazz, folk and contemporary music.
